Kohli Surges to No. 2 in ICC ODI Rankings After Dominant Series Against South Africa

Virat Kohli climbs to No. 2 in the ICC ODI batting rankings after a dominant 302-run series against South Africa, trailing only Rohit Sharma. India’s KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav also rise, while Mitchell Starc and Joe Root make major gains in Test rankings. Full analysis of the latest ICC updates.

Virat Kohli’s commanding run against South Africa has propelled him to No. 2 in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, closing in on India captain Rohit Sharma, who continues to hold the top position. Kohli’s resurgence comes after a prolific three-match series in which he amassed 302 runs at an extraordinary average of 151, reaffirming his stature as one of the format’s most consistent performers.

Kohli’s tally included back-to-back centuries in the opening two ODIs, followed by an unbeaten 65 in the final match, helping India clinch the series 2-1. His latest jump in the rankings saw him displace New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, with Kohli now sitting at 773 rating points, just behind Rohit’s 781. Rohit had a strong outing of his own, scoring 146 runs across the series at an average of 48.67, including two half-centuries that cemented his position at the top.

Several other Indian players also made notable gains. KL Rahul climbed to No. 12 among ODI batters after scores of 60 and an unbeaten 66 in the first two matches, performances that underscored his composure while leading the side in Rohit’s absence. In the bowling charts, Kuldeep Yadav rose three places to No. 3 following a standout series in which he collected nine wickets—the highest tally across both teams.

In T20I rankings, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis cracked the top ten for the first time, moving up three spots to No. 8 after contributing 22 runs in the opening match of the series against India.
